The Harvey Diamond Trio

Harvey Diamond Trio Poster, August 5 2016

Friday August 5 2016. Harvey Diamond, piano; Jon Dreyer, bass; Miki Matsuki, drums. 8:00 pm at Outpost 186, 186 ½ Hampshire Street, Cambridge MA 02139. It's about a block southeast of Ryles, around the back.

The legendary jazz pianist Harvey Diamond has graced the Boston area for decades with his music which is at once both deeply technical and deeply emotional to even the most casual listener. Harvey, a protégé of the great Lennie Tristano, has performed with Sheila Jordan, Art Farmer, Charles Neville and many others. After decades of patience by his fans, he has finally released his first CD as a leader, The Harvey Diamond Trio.

Bassist Jon Dreyer, a student of Harvey Diamond, has become one of his closest collaborators. He also performs regularly with James Merenda, both as a member of his band TickleJuice and also in more mainstream jazz settings, and has performed with most of the Boston jazz community, including Adam Janjigian, Yoko Miwa, Frank Wilkins, Joe Hunt and Steve Langone.

Drummer Miki Matsuki moved to the United States to study jazz at Berklee College of Music in 1996. Miki’s band received the title ‘Best of Berklee’ in 2000. Thereafter, Miki received a full scholarship to The Longy School Of Music, where she graduated with her MM and GPD in Modern American Music Performance with honors. Since then, Miki has performed and recorded in various musical settings, including performances through radio and TV broadcasting, a musical tour of Korea, and soundtrack work. Miki has performed with many great musicians, including Wynton Marsalis, Joanne Brackeen, George Garzone, John Tchicai, Darren Barrett, Frank Lacy, Cecil Brooks, Dave Bryant, Stan Strickland and many others.

There will be no set list and no charts. Anything can happen. Listen to what Warne Marsh called "the spontaneous creation of beauty."
